The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Ministry of Youth Development have sealed a landmark deal to train one million Nigerian youths in the insurance sector.
The “One Million Youths in Insurance” program, launched on October 4, 2024, aims to sensitize youths to insurance best practices, boost entrepreneurship and financial protection, create employment across 774 Local Government Areas, and promote insurance awareness on social media.
This initiative, according to the Commission in a media statement obtained by The Daily Times, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s job creation and youth empowerment agenda.
To this end, NAICOM Commissioner, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, commended the Minister of State for Youths Ayodele Olawande’s commitment to the project.
On his part, Minister Olawande emphasized the importance of insurance in Nigeria’s economy and the potential for youths to drive growth, noting that the future of Nigeria rests on the shoulders of its youths, who make up over 60 per cent of the population.
The partnership with the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria will provide youths with valuable skills and knowledge, accelerating Nigeria’s financial inclusion mandate and stimulating economic growth.
The program’s objectives include fostering entrepreneurship, creating employment opportunities, and promoting insurance awareness. This collaboration is expected to have a positive impact on Nigeria’s economy.
The MoU signing ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including Commissioner Omosehin, Minister Olawande, and representatives from the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.
NAICOM’s recent initiatives demonstrate its commitment to expanding the insurance sector’s reach and contribution to Nigeria’s economy.
