Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has charged five newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to uphold the Public Service Rules, financial regulations and other relevant laws in the discharge of their duties.

Lawal gave the charge on Thursday during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Permanent Secretaries at the Grand Chamber of the Government House in Gusau.

The appointees are Ahmad S. Zamfara, Nasiru Halilu Anka, Mu’azu Jibril Guraguri, Adamu Abdullahi Kanoma and Sani Muhammad Shinkafi.

The Chief Judge of Zamfara State, Justice Kulu Aliyu, administered the oath of office to the five officials, who pledged allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and vowed to uphold the Constitution and the law.

Speaking at the ceremony, the governor said the appointments reflected confidence in the officers’ experience, competence and readiness to assume greater responsibilities in the state’s public service.

He stressed that Permanent Secretaries play critical roles in ensuring administrative continuity, providing policy advice, maintaining discipline and ensuring the effective use of public resources.

“Becoming Permanent Secretaries is more than personal advancement: as senior administrative leaders, your decisions and conduct directly affect government performance and the welfare of the people we serve,” he said.

Lawal said his administration remained committed to strengthening government institutions, reforming public administration and improving the delivery of essential services to the people of Zamfara State.

He described the civil service as a key instrument for translating government policies and decisions into tangible results, urging the new appointees to align their responsibilities with the administration’s development priorities.

The governor also emphasised the need for proper planning, realistic implementation strategies, effective supervision and continuous assessment of government programmes.

He urged the Permanent Secretaries to maintain professional relationships with commissioners and other political officeholders, noting that cooperation between political leaders and career civil servants was essential for effective governance.

According to him, while political leaders determine policy direction, career civil servants provide the institutional knowledge, technical advice and administrative capacity required to implement government decisions.

Lawal said mutual respect and cooperation between the two groups would strengthen government performance and support the achievement of the administration’s development objectives.
