As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate Children’s Day 2026, the Director for Women and Children at United Nations POLAC and Founder of Hope Aglow Charity Foundation, Amb. Prof. Cynthia Amaka Obiorah, has called on Nigerians to take urgent and collective action toward protecting and empowering children across the country.

In her Children’s Day message, Prof Obiorah described Nigerian children as resilient, talented, and full of potential despite the many social and economic challenges confronting them.
She expressed concern over the growing number of children facing hardship, including lack of access to quality education, poverty, abuse, displacement, and neglect, stressing that every child deserves safety, dignity, healthcare, and the opportunity to succeed.

According to her, the condition of vulnerable children in society should serve as a wake-up call for government, parents, traditional institutions, religious bodies, and other stakeholders to do more in safeguarding the future of the younger generation.
Despite the challenges, the UN POLAC Director said she remains hopeful about the future of Nigeria because of the determination, creativity, and courage displayed daily by children and young people across the country.

She noted that many children continue to pursue their dreams under difficult conditions, while communities and organizations are also making efforts to support and educate the next generation.

Obiorah reaffirmed the commitment of United Nations POLAC, through its Directorate for Women and Children, to continue advocating for policies and initiatives that promote child protection, education, and empowerment.

She urged Nigerian children not to give up on their dreams, reminding them that their voices and aspirations matter.
She also appealed to leaders and citizens to move beyond ceremonial celebrations by investing in education, child welfare, healthcare, and safer communities.

“When we lift the child, we lift Nigeria,” she stated.

She wished children across the nation a joyful Children’s Day celebration and prayed for a brighter and more secure future for every Nigerian child.
