The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced a temporary traffic diversion and partial road closure ahead of the installation of heavy steel bridge beams on the Iddo Bridge as part of ongoing rehabilitation works being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.

According to the government, the bridge closure will take place in two phases. The first closure is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., while the second will occur on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The government explained that the entire section of Iddo Bridge in Ijora, within the Apapa Local Government Area, will be shut to vehicular traffic during the specified periods to allow for the safe installation of heavy steel beams as part of the reconstruction project.

To minimise disruption and maintain traffic flow, motorists have been advised to make use of alternative routes during the closure.

Drivers travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain are advised to use Funsho Williams Avenue to reach their destinations.

Motorists heading from Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain should descend the ramp to access Iddo-Onigbe, connect through Oyingbo and continue via Murtala Muhammed Way.

Similarly, road users travelling from Ijora Olopa and Apapa towards Carter Bridge and Marina have been directed to use Eko Bridge by connecting through Apapa Road and proceeding via Murtala Muhammed Way, Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.

The state government appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management personnel who will be deployed to manage vehicular movement during the temporary closure.

It noted that the diversion forms part of traffic management measures designed to support the launching of steel beams for the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Iddo Bridge being undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works through the Office of the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos.
