Moses Akaigwe, Kemi Kotejo others, Honoured as Motoring World Celebrates 30 Years of Automotive Journalism.
Leading automotive publication, Motoring World, has honoured notable industry stakeholders, including the Managing Director of New Era Autovehicle Services, Chief Mrs. Kemi Koyejo, and the Motoring Editor of The Sun Newspaper, Mr. Moses Akaigwe, during its 30th Anniversary Celebration held on June 4, 2026, at the MUSON Centre in Lagos.
Koyejo received the Women in Auto Leadership Award, while Akaigwe was presented with the Auto Journalism Legacy Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s automotive industry and motoring journalism.
The awards were presented by former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, during the event themed, “Celebrating Three Decades of Excellence in Automotive Journalism.”
In her acceptance speech, Koyejo expressed gratitude to Motoring World for the recognition, describing the award as an encouragement to continue contributing to the growth of the automotive sector.
She recalled the early days of her career when women were few in the largely male-dominated industry, noting that the honour would inspire her to do even more.
“I thank all of you, especially the auto journalists who remained professional throughout the years. Through that professionalism, we became friends and eventually family. I appreciate the support you have given me throughout my journey,” she said.
Akaigwe, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Auto Journalists Association (NAJA), also expressed appreciation to the organisers for the honour.
According to him, the recognition holds special significance because it came from a respected colleague and veteran motoring journalist who understands the demands and impact of automotive reporting.
He noted that despite decades of championing editorial content aimed at developing Nigeria’s automotive industry, the award represents the first major recognition he has received from an individual or corporate organisation within the country.
Akaigwe dedicated the award to younger journalists, urging them to remain committed to excellence with the belief that their efforts would eventually be recognised.
Earlier, the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Motoring World Communications Limited, Mr. Femi Owoeye, said award recipients were selected based on their remarkable contributions to the automotive industry.
As part of activities marking the publication’s 30th anniversary, Owoeye announced plans to establish an Automotive Journalism Development Programme aimed at nurturing the next generation of automotive journalists in Nigeria.
He explained that the initiative would strengthen professionalism, deepen industry knowledge and promote developmental journalism capable of supporting the growth of Nigeria’s automotive sector.
Reflecting on the future of the industry, Owoeye described the Nigerian automotive sector as being at a defining moment, with significant opportunities in local vehicle assembly and manufacturing, skills development, technology transfer, electric mobility, road safety, logistics and transportation reforms.
He stressed that realising the industry’s full potential would require stronger collaboration among stakeholders, supportive government policies and effective communication across the automotive value chain.
According to him, Motoring World will continue advocating policies that promote local automotive production, industrial development, investment, technology transfer, road safety and sustainable mobility.
The publisher also announced the return of the publication’s quarterly print magazine, citing sustained support and encouragement from stakeholders across the country.
“This decision reflects our confidence in the future of the industry and our commitment to providing stakeholders with a credible and authoritative platform dedicated exclusively to automotive and mobility issues,” he stated.
Owoeye thanked industry leaders, advertisers, partners, readers and stakeholders for their support over the past three decades, describing the anniversary as a moment for thanksgiving, reflection, celebration and renewed commitment to the advancement of Nigeria’s automotive industry.
The event attracted key players in the automotive industry, government officials, regulators, transport experts, media practitioners and other stakeholders who gathered to celebrate Motoring World’s contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s motoring sector over the past 30 years.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi; Executive Director of Stallion Group, Dr. Harpreet Singh; Mr. Abduraheem Olu Agunbiade; His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Olusegun Aderemi, the Atayero of Aramoko Kingdom; Chairman of the Nigerian Auto Journalists Association, Mr. Theodore Opara; and other distinguished guests
